The era of made-to-measure agents according to Salesforce, and the asymmetry of the corporate numbers
Salesforce is shifting the centre of gravity of enterprise AI away from instant conversation and towards the automation of complex tasks that stretch across days and weeks. The company has announced an expansion of Agentforce with seven pre-configured agents for specific roles: Casey for customer service over voice, SMS, WhatsApp and web chat; Paige for IT and HR requests on Slack and internal portals; Carter for purchase support with in-chat checkout; Hunter for outbound sales; Marshall for back-office processes; Piper for inbound lead qualification; Fin for customer experience flows across multiple channels. Six of them are officially generally available as of the announcement, while Hunter, the outbound sales agent, is in pilot, with general availability indicated for November 2026. The architectural promise rests on the so-called 'long-horizon runtime', an infrastructure that according to Salesforce stands on three mechanisms: a memory that preserves context between sessions, durable execution that maintains and corrects the plan over time, and 'dynamic steering' that adapts behaviour to user feedback. However, as SiliconANGLE's reporting makes clear, this extended execution capability is for now reserved to Hunter alone, with an extension to the other agents planned later. Again according to SiliconANGLE, developers can force an agent to carry out certain steps in a predetermined way using a syntax called Agent Script, presented as a mitigation of hallucination risk: an announced countermeasure, with no independent verification behind it.
The commercial push is backed by an imposing battery of figures, starting with the 7 billion 'Agentic Work Units' claimed across Agentforce and Slack combined, 3.2 billion of them in the second quarter alone. The case studies cited by the vendor describe considerable success rates: Anthropic is said to have autonomously resolved 79% of support conversations through the Fin agent, while Autism Queensland is said to have handled 70% of its administrative cases with Paige. For none of these numbers are methodology, measurement period or baseline public, and the cases are by construction reference customers picked by the party doing the announcing. The lack of a public definition for the unit of measure used and the absence of independent verification of the customer data — together with total silence on the pricing model and on prices themselves — are not a secondary detail: they are the essential lens for gauging the asymmetry between the sales narrative and the technical reality.
The operational picture is complicated further by the position of the Fin agent, offered as already available yet tied to the company of the same name, for which Salesforce signed an acquisition agreement worth roughly 3.6 billion dollars in June 2026. With a formal deal signed but not yet completed, subject to regulatory approvals and with closing expected in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2027, the agent's full availability raises questions about the contractual perimeter and about the dependence on the proprietary Apex model. Meanwhile Salesforce declares Multi-Agent Orchestration, which splits work among specialised agents, generally available, while AI Skills in Coworker remains in pilot: for these, as for Agent Optimizer, general availability is indicated for October 2026. These are announced commitments, not things that have happened.
Promising turnkey synthetic employees is excellent positioning leverage, but as long as the metrics remain proprietary currencies that cannot be compared with anything and the cost of use stays confidential, enterprise automation looks more like a bet on trust than a return-on-investment calculation. — Olya

- I used WebFetch to open the official Salesforce newsroom release (primary source) and pulled from it the list of agents, availability status, platform components and claimed metrics. I compared it with SiliconANGLE of 11 September 2026, which confirms the date, the agents and the functions and adds two details missing from the release: the long-horizon runtime being initially exclusive to Hunter, and the Agent Script syntax. I separately verified the origin of the Fin agent in Salesforce's investor release of 15 June 2026: 3.6 billion dollars, agreement signed but not closed, closing expected in Q4 FY2027. I looked for independent verification of the percentages in the Futurum analysis: there is none, and the document declares a conflict of interest. No figure reported here is presented as measured by a third party. I found no verbatim quotes attributed to named people with a role in the sources consulted, so the quotes field stays empty.

- All the customer percentages come from Salesforce's own announcement: no methodology, measurement period, baseline or independent verification is available, and the cases cited are by construction reference customers chosen by the announcer. 'Agentic Work Unit' is a proprietary metric with no public definition, so the 7 billion claimed cannot be compared with anything. The long-horizon runtime has not been tested by third parties: reliability, edge-case behaviour and the cost of extended execution remain unmeasured. Prices are missing. It is unclear how Fin can be offered as a generally available agent while the acquisition is still open (contractual perimeter, dependence on the Apex model, outcome of regulatory approvals). The October and November 2026 dates are announced commitments, not events that have occurred. The Futurum analysis consulted does not independently verify the numbers and declares commercial relationships with companies in the sector, including those cited.
- Perché pubblicarla
- This is the move from agents that answer a question to agents that hold on to a goal for weeks, announced by the largest vendor of enterprise business software and therefore aimed at a very large pool of real users. It deserves publication above all for the distance between what is verifiable (names, functions, dates, declared architecture) and what is not (autonomous resolution rates, a proprietary metric, absent prices): this is exactly the kind of announcement where a reader weighing adoption needs to know which numbers were measured by someone who is not selling them.
