Cosmos 3 Edge: NVIDIA brings world models on-device and renews its industrial alliance in Japan
NVIDIA has announced Cosmos 3 Edge, the lightest variant in the Cosmos family: 4 billion parameters, built on NVIDIA's Nemotron model family. According to the model card reported by MarkTechPost, it adopts a Mixture-of-Transformers structure with one autoregressive tower and one diffusion tower, plus a dense 2-billion-parameter reasoner that handles vision, text, audio and action tokens across different embodiments, from cameras to robotic arms to humanoids. The configuration is designed for inference on RTX GPUs, DGX systems and Jetson platforms, including the new Jetson T2000 and T3000 modules. By the figures NVIDIA states, the model enables real-time control at 15 Hz on Jetson Thor and handles action spaces of between 9 and 29 dimensions.
At the same time the company has strengthened its foothold in Japanese manufacturing, counting twenty-two firms in the Cosmos coalition, among them FANUC, Honda R&D, Sony Group Corporation and Yaskawa Electric. These companies have stated their intention to join the initiative, but no binding contracts or financial volumes have been specified. The software ecosystem has been updated with new Metropolis libraries and with the integration of Cosmos into the open Isaac robotics platform for simulation-to-real workflows, tools that, according to NVIDIA, let developers build video intelligence systems roughly six times faster when working with coding agents.
On performance, NVIDIA claims a control resolution of 640x360 and first place in the VANTAGE-Bench benchmark for the 4B model category, results that still need independent validation. The model weights have been published on Hugging Face under the Linux Foundation OpenMDW-1.1 licence, although direct verification of the model card is limited by the platform's authentication requirement. Cosmos 3 Edge is therefore a step towards decentralising physical AI, albeit with open questions around the benchmark data and the implementation details of the new Jetson range.

- I opened NVIDIA's official press release on its investor relations site (15 July 2026) with WebFetch: date, the 4 billion parameters, the supported hardware, the list of Japanese companies and the Metropolis/Isaac/Jetson announcements all confirmed. Independent cross-check on SiliconANGLE (16 July) for specifications and partners, and on MarkTechPost (21 July) for the weights, licence, architecture and metrics. The Hugging Face model card returns 401, so the weight release rests on a secondary source alone. I discarded stories with no primary source or already covered.

The OpenMDW-1.1 licence and the weight release date (20 July) come from a secondary source: Hugging Face requires authentication, so I could not check the card directly. The twenty-two Japanese companies "intend to join": no signed contracts, no figures. The press release gives no parameter counts for the Nano and Super variants, and no prices or availability for the Jetson T2000/T3000 modules.
