Meta Muse Spark 1.1: entering the API arena with an extended context

Meta has officially released Muse Spark 1.1, the second model from the Superintelligence Labs and an update to April's release. The spec sheet aims high: a one-million-token context window and multimodal understanding spanning images, video and PDFs. The features lean toward automation, ranging from coding across complex codebases to multi-agent orchestration and computer use. It's precisely this functional density that Amjad Masad, CEO of Replit, zeroes in on, saying that "what's most impressive about Muse Spark is how much it packs into one model: massive million-token context, full multimodal support..." The announcement conceals a strategic shift more interesting than the model update itself. By opening the Meta Model API in public preview, the company pairs its long-standing open-weight licensing policy with direct commercial access to its own models. The interface, designed to be compatible with OpenAI's, aims to capture developers looking for agentic coding solutions. Saoud Rizwan, CEO of Cline, notes that "Meta is clearly building for serious agentic coding – strong tool use at a price point that makes it viable..." Economic transparency, however, isn't immediate. While the official blog celebrates the technical features, the price list comes from secondary sources such as AI Weekly, which report $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 for output, with an initial geographic restriction to the United States. Absent direct confirmation in the official API documentation, these figures should be taken with due caution. The fact remains that, free credits aside, Meta has finally started playing by the same rules as its competitors.
