Full songs from a prompt: melody, vocals and arrangement.

What sets it apart
Suno hands you a finished track — melody, vocals, lyrics, arrangement — from a single line of prompt, in under a minute. Since v5.5 in March 2026 the platform has leaned into personalisation: you can record your own voice and sing through it, or train up to three models on your own material, both reserved for Pro and Premier. With Suno Studio, launched in September 2025, it is trying to move from toy to workstation.
Strengths
The trip from idea to demo is very short and cheap: the Pro plan is $8 a month with 2,500 credits, roughly five hundred songs. Commercial rights come with the paid plans, and stem separation, improved in June 2026, lets you carry individual tracks into a DAW instead of settling for a sealed mix. The free tier's 50 credits a day is enough to work out whether the tool suits you.
When to use it
It earns its place when you need music quickly and music is not the point of the project: a podcast theme, a video bed, a jingle, a demo to play someone before booking a studio. It also works as a sketchpad: generate twenty variants of an idea, keep the one that holds up, finish it elsewhere. With Voices and custom models it becomes interesting for working musicians who want to prototype in their own timbre.
When to avoid it
Credits do not roll over month to month, so anyone who works in irregular bursts pays for the quiet weeks too; and songs made on the free plan belong to Suno, not to you, and a later upgrade does not retroactively fix that. The legal picture is still open: in the United States a track made entirely by AI gets no copyright protection, the Warner deal of November 2025 arrived after the record industry's lawsuit, and some distributors refuse AI-generated music. If the track has to be signed, defended or registered in your name, or if you need fine control over harmony and arrangement, a DAW and a musician are the better answer.
