NotebookLM

Google⚙ AI-generated content

The AI notebook that studies your documents and generates podcasts.

Olya's profile
What sets it apart
NotebookLM is an assistant grounded ONLY in the documents you upload: it answers by citing your sources line by line instead of pulling from the open web, which cuts down on invention. Its best-known trick is the Audio Overview, which turns your material into a two-voice podcast — now in over 80 languages — alongside video versions, mind maps and quizzes.
Strengths
Every answer links back to the exact passage in the source, so you verify instead of trusting blindly; it handles long documents (up to 500,000 words per single source) and many sources at once. The free tier is generous — 50 sources per notebook, 100 notebooks — and the audio and video formats make digestible material nobody would otherwise read.
When to use it
It pays off when you have your own corpus to understand — lecture notes, research, meeting minutes, a contract — and want to query it without the AI inventing what isn't there. Handy for studying, prepping a meeting, or turning a pile of PDFs into a podcast to listen to in the car.
When to avoid it
It's not a search engine: with no sources uploaded it knows nothing, so for fresh news or general knowledge look elsewhere. The free limits (3 audio overviews and 50 queries a day) bite quickly, and lifting them means a Google AI/One subscription at $19.99 a month — you can't buy it on its own.
